Water Features- An Easy Way To Increase The Value Of Your Home

As a homeowner, you are always looking for ways to increase the value of your home. It doesn't matter whether you're going to sell in the very near future or can't imagine ever leaving, value is important. One of the best ways to add value to your property is to install a water feature in your yard.

Many people used to just settle for a hot tub or swimming pool, but now water is more of a center of relaxation. Things like water falls, koi ponds, intricate birdbaths, and other great water features are becoming more common and desirable. Having one in your yard can add a lot of value to your home!

There are various ways to go about getting a water feature. You can go to a garden store or home improvement center and buy one, but the most value comes from features that are unique. Custom designs are always a good bet if you want to set your property apart from others'.

The first thing you need to do is choose the kind of water feature you want. There are many different choices and varying degrees of maintenance that come along with them. You need to figure out whether you want the splish-splash noise of a waterfall or the stillness of a pond. You could even have a combination of both.

You should to pay attention to what you want for yourself as well as what will increase the perception of value in the eyes of others. For example, if you have a large, lovely home that draws eyes for its architectural beauty, but you add a small and unnoticeable pond it isn't likely to increase the value or even be noticed! If your home is small and quaint but you add a large and overbearing water feature the same problem can happen.

You need to give it a lot of thought before adding the feature to your home. You may even want to speak to a professional landscaper, or a company that specializes in water features. Be prepared to explain your reasons for having a water feature and what you hope to get out of having one.

Be warned, you might have heard that water features can actually decrease value! This has been the case in the past because they had a reputation of being hard to care for and unreliable. These days you can make sure they are relatively maintenance free and well designed.

If you are getting ready to sell your home make sure the water feature is kid friendly, easy to maintain, and appropriate for the rest of your landscaping and decor. You should also make a big point of telling the potential new owners how it blocks out unwanted neighborhood noise. They'll love that!

Getting a water feature can certainly add a lot of value to your home. As long as you plan ahead you'll have a great new fixture in your eyes that will be the envy of the neighborhood

by Nardiah Dougherty-20105

Is your office furniture an employee retention strategy? Office furniture used to be boringly functional – mission brown desks matched with dull black fabric chairs. But office furniture has been undergoing a quiet revolution in the past few years. Businesses keen to attract and retain the best staff have been looking to refurbishing their offices to bring in new designs, colours and patterns.
"Smart employers know that a large component of employee productivity is the work environment in which they work. Attractive and functional office furniture is part of boosting productivity" said Nardiah Dougherty from Furniture Systems.
"If you provide employees with office furniture that is dated, does not have adequate storage and is cumbersome then you are not doing yourself any favours in the human resources department. Many Generation X and Y employees pay close attention to the office environment in which they work."

"Some of my tips for ensuring your office furniture is helping you retain your employees are to ensure you have adequate attractive spaces created for both informal and formal meetings. With the increase in open-plan offices to reduce costs, you need sleek modern designs that are modular and easy to configure"said Nardiah.
"You also need to look beyond the traditional boring blue or grey cubicles. Colours and fabrics that are bright and cheerful will help maintain the energy of your employees during the day. Don't be afraid to use colour in your office furniture. Quirky or fun designs for your chairs or tables add a bit of spice to break-out areas and encourage creativity."

"Lighting is another area to consider to boost employee productivity, with our negative ion generating desk lamp proving quite popular in some offices."
So if you are looking for a way to attract and retain good employees, perhaps it is time to retire your old office furniture and upgrade to more modern designs.

How To Make Mexican Paper Flowers

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Erich Simko

Learning how to make Mexican paper flowers such as those that you see in some of the stores around town or on some of the television shows on the T.V. is not as hard as you might think. Although after I was involved in a devastating car accident a while ago, and had been bed ridden for many months with no transportation, I thought that learning to make these and other paper flowers might be something difficult for me because of no prior interest. I began looking for alternative activities to get involved in (besides watching television!) and I eventually discovered how interesting and gratifying making Mexican paper flowers can be.

Making Mexican paper flowers gave me an outlet of how to express myself through creativity. Not only is it an inexpensive hobby, but it also is very relaxing and when you finally have a finished product it is exceptionally rewarding. I thought that it would only be an activity I would perform during my recuperation period, but I was wrong. Making these Mexican paper flowers has now become one of my favorite pass times.

There are only a few items that are needed to make a Mexican paper flower. Tissue paper or crepe paper, pipe cleaner, twisty wire tie, scissors, ruler, coloring markers, perfume, and an imagination. Most of these items can be found in your kitchen cabinets, tool drawer or at the local store. Then once you have all of the needed items and hardware for making those Mexican paper flowers the fun begins.

Here is your first lesson learning how to make Mexican paper flowers:

1) First, you want to make the leaves, so you cut a pile of 6 to 10 pieces of paper 10 inches wides, and 14-20 inches long.

2) Next, you want to make approximately 1 inch folds in the layers (accordion style).

3) Then you need to tie the middle or the accordion with a twisty wire tie. Then you get to use your creative mind and trim all the edges with your scissors.

4) Then, start at the outside of the flower and start to bend each piece of tissue paper in half (be very gentle with this step).

5) The last step is use the pipe cleaner for the stem of your festive Mexican paper flower and as a special additive you can also spray that Mexican paper flower with perfume to make it perfect.

A situation arose in my own life where friends of my family commented on how original and gorgeous the Mexican flowers I made were. This made me feel extremely good inside. I then began to explain how easy and inexpensive it was to do and the enjoyment I felt while doing it. Later that year, my family and I were at their house and sure enough they had a vase full of Mexican paper flowers displayed in the middle of their dining room table.

Once you actually design and create a Mexican paper flower you will see how much fun and relaxing it is. It can become quite an addiction because you always think of different shapes, colors, or sizes to make the flowers depending on the mood your in that day.

Even if making Mexican paper flowers is not your preferred style, making other types of flower crafts such as paper flowers or origami flowers might be. Discover what countless other people have who have enriched their lives creating beautiful paper flowers either for a living, as a regular hobby or even just as a skill in their arsenal to expand their minds. Don't delay and get started making beautiful and gratifying paper flowers today!

Now you should definitely not have to go to the end of the Earth to find more info about How to Make Mexican Paper Flowers & other kinds of paper flowers. No doubt you could also benefit from visual aid. Shyness in Children

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Arthor Pens

What is shyness?

Liz wanted to enter the mess hall. All the other kids were already seated in groups, munching their lunch, chatting happily. Liz was afraid that people would look at her, so she hung outside, trying to muster the courage to enter. But her heart raced inside her rib cage, her palms sweated and she felt a warm blush cover her face. So she left.

Shyness during childhood years.

Shy children like Liz suffer from 'approach avoidance conflict. It means that they do want to approach others, but at the same time, are too afraid to do so. As a result, the shy child may have bad approach skills, lower social skills and feel that everything they say is dull or stupid. Hence, shy children may have low results in tests that require face-to-face interactions, and may be perceived as less intelligent than they are due to their fear of talking. Thus, a vicious cycle may begin that only enhances the low-self esteem of the shy child. During later childhood and adolescence shyness becomes increasingly associated with loneliness, depression, social anxiety, and low self-worth.

The shy ones may feel tiny in relation to others, or wish to disappear all together.

Mitch's switching into objects in "The Two Tuba Switch" is a way to stretch shyness a bit to make a point.

Shyness - nature or nurture? Both.

Shyness runs in families. About one fifth of the babies are born with a tendency for shyness.

Shyness may be caused by any single or repeated incidents that makes us feel uncomfortable or unworthy (new day in preschool /school, peer mockery, bullying, etc).

Modern age factors.

Increased crime which forces children off the streets, smaller families, increasing use of computers, video games, and TV as a form of non-human means for fun and play. These changes which may also be a convenient for a shy person may also enhance his shyness.

How to improve matters in a nutshell?

Parents must be supportive of their child's temperament helping them feel better about themselves. At the same time, they must not be over protective by helping the child engage in successful social activity. Mutual activities such as reading together Children's educational books about shy children and how they cope is another good way.

Parents must never ever, let their own childhood memories and frustrations interfere and get in the way! Love your children for what they are.

by M Stone Dupree

Almost identical to a home wheelchair lift, a chair stair lift is similar in the function and the job it performs. Unlike an elevator it is not a very complex machine. Stair lifts are installed in your stairway and typically consists of five main components. These include the track, drive, chair, controls, and power systems. Each has an important role in delivering you or your loved one from floor to floor.

Track
The track is what the lift moves up and down on. The simplest and least expensive designs are straight. Tracks are available for a curved stairs and tend to be more expensive.

Drive
The drive is what transfers the movement of the motor to move the chair lifting or lowering you to your destination. The most popular today is rack and pinion drives. Cable or screw drives are older technology and may be available as well.

Chair
In order to make the trip you've got to have a place to sit. Chairs on a stair lift may swivel so you can safely get on at either landing. The two types that swivel will turn 90 or 180 degrees. On some models the track may be long enough that a swiveling chair may not be needed. All chairs will include a footrest but a powered folding footrest may also be an option.

Controls
You need some type of control to make your lift move. Many use a hand held wired remote. Wireless remotes are becoming more popular and depending on your situation may be more appropriate for your use.

Power
Your stairlift will require electricity to make the trip up or down the track. There are three types of power sources. The most popular and least complicated is a battery pack located in the chair/motor assembly. The batteries are charged from a charging station located at either end of the track which are plugged into the nearest AC outlet.

The other two types consist of a tethered cord that moves along with the chair/motor assembly. One type has batteries but is constantly charged. The other type relies solely on the AC power. The downfall to either of these is the tethered cable. It is constantly winding and unwinding and can eventually fail causing problems and requiring repair service.

Although each manufacturers stair-lift vary slightly you will find that they have these common features. Each will have their own design requirements for each style of staircase. Each will have literature or phone numbers available discussing what options are available to you and what dimensions are required in your stairway.

The NewAir ADS-400 is a small dehumidifier that helps you get rid of excess moisture in your home. This helps create a more comfortable environment in your home. It also helps you protect your furniture and electronic devices from water damage. It works best in small areas like bathrooms, closets or under-sink areas. The NewAir ADS-400 holds up to 32 ounces of water in its removable water tank so you don't have to empty it very often. It also has a yellow indicator LED light that alerts you when the water tank is full. So you don't have to worry about the water tank overflowing, the dehumidifier also has a automatic shut off feature that shuts the unit off when the tank is full.

It uses a very low amount of energy (only 36 watts of power consumption). You can even use this dehumidifier to remove moisture from your car or truck. When fungi degrade substances to obtain nutrition, they produce Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). If you are exposed to high levels of these VOCs, your mucous membrane may become irritated. This can lead to headaches, decreased attention span, difficulty in concentration and dizziness.

A less common health risk associated with mold is invasive disease. Invasive disease does not affect healthy individuals. It is an opportunistic infection that affects people with abnormally functioning immune systems. An example of the kind of person this might affect is an individual with HIV/AIDS or someone who is receiving immunosuppressive drugs such as transplant or chemotherapy patients.

To prevent any of these health risks from affecting you or your family, consider using a dehumidifier to remove the excess moisture from your home. It could prevent a lot of discomfort or possibly a serious infection in the future.

Appreciate The Ones You Love The Most

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Chris Lowrey

Isn't it funny how a stranger can bring out the best in us and yet the people we love the most gets stuck with our bad moods and the behavior that follows?

We tell ourselves it is because we are most comfortable around the ones who know us and love us. We even think it is actually a compliment that we are "ourselves" around our close family and friends and we don't have to pretend to be someone we aren't. But, is that really fair?

Example: We have had a horrible day at the office. We walk in our front door to be greeted by the people we love the most. Instead of sharing what was right about our day, we share with them all of our woes and sorrows. Not only do we babble on negatively, we forget to smile both with our lips and words. We slump into the kitchen and begin the overwhelming task of dinner and laundry. Our kids are rambling on about their adventures of the day, our spouse is filling our ears with their news and yet we hardly hear a word. We have absolutely tuned them out. We just don't have the energy. And yet, when we run to the grocery store to grab the gallon of milk so we can complete our dinner, we smile ever so sweetly and speak wonderfully kind words to the person behind us in line. Why is that?

I guess you can call it human behavior. We tend to trust that the people we love the most will allow us our weaknesses without any permanent damage. We can "be ourselves" around our family, which can mean the good, the bad and the downright ugly.

What if we spent some time focusing on our priorities? When we walk out of the office and anxiously guide ourselves home, let us remember that it is our love ones that deserve our best. Not to imply that we should treat strangers or acquaintances badly, we should just treat our loved ones better. Try finding your balance on your trip home. Maybe you have a favorite song that always lightens your spirit or you need total peace and quiet before you get home so you turn off the radio and open your windows for some fresh air. Or, do you need a few minutes alone right when you step in your door to set straight your priorities? Whatever brings you peace and puts you in an "I am so very blessed" mood, make that a must.

However, at no time should we feel we are becoming robots either. We cannot always be in a good mood. We cannot always hide our frustrations. We cannot always walk around with a smile plastered on our faces. At times we need to relax and just let it all out. But, we mustn't make a habit of it! Are Your Furnace Filter Is Working Fine?

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Jim Brown1

When it comes to heating and cooling elements within a home, the most frequently asked question happens to be, "In which part is the furnace filter located?" You may find it difficult to locate the filter in times of need, especially when you feel like changing out the filter - either on moving into a brand new home, or even when you have lived in a house for a few years. You know very well that the filter is in there somewhere as there is one for every heating and cooling system in a home. Your inability in finding it might just frustrate you a bit too much.

In all probability, your furnace filter may be located somewhere close to the location of fan. This condition is applicable to all different types of heating furnaces - including gas, oil and electric furnaces - as well as air conditioners. It is surprising that even individuals who working for years in the HVAC industry sometimes find it difficult to locate the tricky hidden filters, but the fact is that they are always there somewhere, for sure!

In order to keep them shielded from view completely, furnace filters are commonly placed behind panels, inside the opening of a duct or even behind some other equipment. Originally, the purpose behind filters was mainly to prevent components form getting damaged in case they got into the fan section of the furnace. For this reason, they can be placed practically anywhere, so long as, to a certain degree, they are upstream of the fan. For the installation of filters, the usual location preference of most manufacturers is generally just in front of the components of the fan.

Quite often, filters are located somewhere within the duct system - at some place that is upstream of the location of the air handler. This location of the furnace filter is common in case of older systems of heating and air conditioning. For actually locating the filter the best way to start is from the location of the air handler, and gradually moving backwards, because the filter can be just about anywhere around there. At times, it may be located at the return air grill opening, or otherwise, right behind the return air grill itself.

After figuring out the duct, which is the furnace return duct, you are well on your way to locate the filter. The return duct is the place at which the grill opening draws air into it. Possibly, the furnace filter will be somewhere close to this opening, most likely, between this opening and the air handler.

In one of the rare cases, there is a possibility that no furnace filter was installed at the time of the original installation of the entire unit. Along with never being installed in the first place, there is also a chance that the filter may have been removed and not replaced. In such a case, it is better to have your furnace officially examined, to ensure complete safety. In the absence of a filter, the airflow in your furnace would definitely be very poor, which can be a cause of concern. Moreover, in this kind of a situation, your heating and cooling equipment can be rendered inefficient to a large extent.

Landscaping Tips for Water Conservation

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

Many people think that landscaping is a great way to preserve water. On the other hand, most critics challenge this fact by saying that landscaping is the number one water consumer. This is because they believe that the more colorful and organized the garden is, it just has to be consuming a larger amount of water.

Over recent times research has shown that landscaping actually only uses up 2.9% of the overall national water consumption and this could be lowered still if people would just stop to consider the limitation of the water supply.

So how are the excesses in water consumption accounted for? According to some experts, the major cause of unnecessary water consumption in landscaping is when it is not used properly and only the people who carry out improper use of the water can be held responsible for this.

Poor landscaping plans and incorrect irrigation systems are just two of the common mistakes made by people using water when landscaping their gardens or yards.

Many experts state that the natural resource of water can supply up to 67% of the total amount of water used in any given year, so taking this into account we are faced with an immense opportunity to preserve water.

The fact remains however, that gardeners and landscapers are a mind to themselves and make their own decisions in choosing what to do, regardless of any guidance supplied by the experts on how best to preserve water when preparing their gardens.

How can we make a difference? Well, the perfect example would be a water sprinkler set on an automatic timer providing the required use of water for a controlled amount of time. If the sprinkler is set to operate during hours of low temperature, immediate evaporation would not occur and the plants would receive more benefits of the water.

Any reasonably experienced landscaper is aware that the life of his plants does not depend entirely on water alone. Pests need to be done away with in order to maintain the gardens landscaped appearance and to keep the plants healthy.

There are many natural ways to destroy pests, such as encouraging pest-eating bugs to live in your yard. These include ladybugs, stink bugs, and assassin bugs. These various bugs eat anything from aphids and potato bugs to mealy bugs and spider mites.

Another way to discourage pests is to alternate the planting of different species of plant. Pests like certain plants, and if a bunch of the plants are grouped together the pests will have a population explosion. By spacing out the plants, fewer pests are attracted and so there are fewer offspring.

People should always keep in mind that it is not necessary to use a large amount of water to maintain a well landscaped garden or backyard. Water conservation and gardening should go hand in hand, concluding that the use of water should be both efficient and controlled.

What type of Fence is best for your Property?

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Stephanie Larkin

Choosing a fence is not as easy as it used to be. In the days when choice was more limited, the most popular option was the simple white picket fence: clean and traditional, it looked great with almost any style home. These days you have dozens of choices in terms of style, height, material, and color. Choosing a good combination of style elements adds appeal and value to your property, so it's not a decision to take lightly.

What's the Purpose of the Fence?

Why do you want a fence? The answer to that question is one of the most important factors that will determine the type of fence you need. Just as important, it is going to dictate more practical factors such as the height of the fence, and where and how large the openings in the fence will be.

In most cases, your fence will have several different purposes, which might include one or more of the following:

  • Defining your property line
  • Ornamental
  • Provide privacy
  • Keeping children or pets on the property
  • Keeping neighboring animals out (depending on where you live, this might be dogs, cattle, deer, or other species)
  • Block wind or sunlight
  • Act as a sound barrier
  • Act as a support for plants

At this point it's best to establish some other important aspects of the fence, such as how high you need it to be. This is going to depend partly on aesthetic factors and partly on the function you have in mind. If privacy is the goal, for example, you will likely want a higher fence than you might if it's purely ornamental.

Another thing that is important to keep in mind at this stage is that if you have a large yard, or one that has several different purposes, you may want to consider using two or more different fence styles.

Finally, when deciding things such as how high the fence will be, do not forget to consider building codes and how they might affect the type of fence you can build. It is also a good idea to check where your boundaries lie, so you don't inadvertently build a fence that's lying on your neighbor's property.

What's your Property's Personality?

The next decision is a simple one that involves looking at the architectural style of your home and making some basic choices about what to consider and what to eliminate.

The key here is thinking about what's going to look good on your property based on what's already there. Your fence needs will likely be different depending on whether your home is rural, suburban or urban, older or modern, brick or stone, wood or stucco. You might prefer a rugged, rustic look with a rough wooden fence, or a neat and tidy fence with clean lines made from stain-resistant materials.

Choosing Materials

You have three main choices, here: wood, metal, and vinyl. Depending on the fence's purpose you can sometimes rule out one or more of these three choices right away. Metal and vinyl, for example, are not always suitable privacy fences, as metal fences tend to be more open, and vinyl fences do not yet offer the wider range that wood does.

When choosing materials your primary consideration (apart from your budget) will probably be aesthetic, but there are some other important factors to keep in mind.

One of these is how much time you are willing to spend on maintenance. Are you willing to spend a day or so every few years repainting a wooden fence, or rust-proofing an iron fence? Do you live in a neighborhood where graffiti is a problem? If so, you may want to choose materials that do not lend themselves well to being spray-painted, or spend some extra money on paint that can be cleaned easily.

The materials you choose are also going to depend on the function of your fence, of course. If privacy or noise reduction is the most important consideration, you will likely prefer a higher fence that completely encloses the area. On the other hand, if you just want to prevent your younger children from wandering off the property, a lower fence that's partially open may suit you better.

All the choices you make in terms of material should be bound by the style decisions you made earlier, when thinking about your property's personality. Do not be tempted to change your mind, here. You might have fallen in love with the idea of a wrought-iron fence, but if you live in an ultra-modern urban home, that style is more than likely not suited to your property's personality.

Swimming Lessons For Babies

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by SandyN

Mums and Bubs swimming lesson sessions are designed for babies aged between 6 and 24 months. Mothers or fathers go into the pool with the babies. Not every swim school will offer these lessons. So ring around and pick the one that you are most comfortable with. Make sure that all the lessons are conducted by a qualified instructor. . In Australia these sessions are usually called 'Mums and Bubs Swimming Lessons'. Dads if you are reading this, it should not discourage you from taking your baby to the swimming lesson (and give mum a break).

The main aim of these swimming lessons is to instill water confidence in the babies. The whole lesson is designed to be a lot of fun. Every class usually has around 8 adults in it. Lots of rhymes are sung…There are usually some water toys as well…

Lot of children can be quite happy in water but when it comes to putting their face under water, they get a bit scared…These lessons slowly introduce the idea of putting the face under water…If your child is very uncomfortable the most important thing is for you to be relaxed…Be patient and encouraging. In time the child will be fine. Babies are also introduced to the concept of blowing bubbles in water…I remember when I took my daughter to these classes, at the end of each class, the babies were made to sit on the side of the pool…We sang 'Humpty Dumpty' to them and then at the end of the rhyme we encouraged them to leap forward into our hands…Most of the babies quite enjoyed this little game.

It is important for parents to realize that the aim here is not to teach your babies to swim…The aim is to instill water confidence in them…Don't expect too much from them. Don't be upset if your child does not take to the water straight away…I am telling this from my own experience…I have seen kids who were uncomfortable in the first sessions but grew up to become excellent swimmers. Supervise them at all times. Hold them and don't think they can swim just because they are attending these swim classes. These classes don't remove the risk of drowning. So have fun but keep safety in mind at all times. If you for some reason don't prefer these swimming classes, then you can take your child to a public pool. This will probably be a bit cheaper. You can make up your own routine and have fun with your baby in the toddler pool. Take some water toys and may be even a water noodle. Sing and make the whole process lot of fun.

Always remember that kids can drown in the shallow end as well…So supervise them at all times. And just to be on the safe side it is probably a good idea for all parents to learn CPR and rescue methods. Some public pools have a small picnic area as well. After the fun at the pool, you both can have a picnic too. And one more thing - make sure that the water is nice and warm. Babies normally get quite tired after a swimming lesson. So the good news is that they will probably take a long nap after the swimming lesson (hopefully).

Identifying The Mood Of Your Great Dane

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Richard Cussons

No matter how intelligent you or your Great Dane is, it is usually difficult to identify what this sweet creature is feeling. A Great Dane, along with other animals, does not have the capacity to tell people what exactly they are feeling. Sometimes, animals are considered as plain creatures good at wagging their tails or barking out loud during the night. But, animals like dogs communicate in more ways than some people might imagine. A Great Dane has a variety of ways to express his feelings using all parts of his body. Understanding what your dog is trying to tell you will definitely create a happy relationship that could last for years.

Here are a few guidelines to determine your dog's mood through body language:

Friendly - A friendly dog has upraised ears, his eyes open and watchful, a calm mouth, wagging tail and perhaps whining and giving out playful barking sounds.

Playful- A playful dog wags his tail in a bended over pose that seems enticing you to play.

Dominant- A dog showing dominance has his ears directly upward or frontward with his mouth a little open or closed. His eyes are wide open looking intently. His body stiff and tall with the tail out from the body.

Aggressive - An aggressive dog has his ears flat against the head, narrowed eyes, tensed body, mouth open to show teeth and tail held out from the body. Growling and howling can be heard from an aggressive dog.

Submissive - A submissive dog has his ears folded against his head with his eyes closed and paw lifted. He looks mild and timid, not playful and will definitely not attack.

Fear - A scared dog exhibits lowered posture with tail lowered between the legs. He will not look directly at you and will whine or bark fearfully especially if they are cooped up or on a restraint.

Worried - Restlessness and pacing is evident in worried dogs. Quick barks along with howling can also be heard.

Stressed - A stressed dog has his ears back and down against the head, mouth wide open with fast breathing. Nervousness and shaking can be seen.

With these guidelines, you will be able to identify the moods and what your Great Dane is trying to imply. Once the mood is identified, you can assess his responses to the training procedures. This is also beneficial not just during training periods but for your dog's everyday life. You will be able to know the things he likes and dislikes and ensure everyone's safety.

Putting In A Flowerbed

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Dane Smith

Putting in a flowerbed is a great way to add a splash of color and charm to your lawn, and turn an ordinary yard into a place to stop and smell the roses. All it takes is a little dirt work and a weekend afternoon, and you'll be ready to plant azaleas and daisies to your heart's content.

The first step is to decide the "where and how big?" question. There are a few things to keep in mind when making these choices, such as proximity to a water faucet (Or whether you need to buy a new, longer hose), what types of flowers you want to plant (Do they need full-sun or shade? Keep in mind that if your location will receive less than six-hours a day of sun, you will need to choose shade varieties of flowers, while more than six hours of sun requires sun-loving varieties), and how much time you want to commit to maintenance (Weeds love flowerbeds, too, and a smaller flowerbed means less to weed). Once you have chosen a location, you can mark the perimeter of the flowerbed using string or a hose. This provides a great visual that can easily be adjusted before you commit to digging.

After you have the flowerbed marked out exactly how you want it to be, it's time to start digging. Use a shovel or spade to cut through the sod and remove the grass and roots from the flowerbed area. Take your time--this can be backbreaking work! Make sure you put all the sod into a wheelbarrow or bucket and dispose of away from your work-zone, or your flowerbed will inevitably revert back to its origin as part of your lawn.

Once you have the sod removed, surround the flowerbed with whatever edging you have chosen. There are lots of options, from brick, stone, and pavers, to landscaping timbers and vinyl. You will need to dig down a few inches to install your flowerbed perimeter, depending on your edging choice, in order to imbed the edging and ensure stability. If the soil is especially bad in your yard, it can be easier to build your flowerbed edging up and add garden soil, creating a raised flowerbed, than to dig the existing ground and amend the soil.

Now that the edging is installed, it's time to prepare the dirt. If your flowerbed is raised, this is just a matter of filling it in with garden soil, humus and organic compost, and mixing with either a tiller or turning it over by hand with a shovel. If you have a lower flowerbed, or if you want to use some of the native soil in your flowerbed, it's digging time again. You will need to dig down approximately eight-inches to a foot, loosening the soil and removing any rocks. Once you have dug up the entire flowerbed, add soil amendments and mix well. A consistently good amendment choice for flowerbeds is organic composts and manures, in addition to whatever amendment you may need for your soil type.

Now, the only thing left to do is add flowers and enjoy. (A little mulch for weed control wouldn't hurt either).

Sewing Fun Stuff - A Rainy Day Savior

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Korbin Newlyn

Many Kids get bored on rainy weekends when they don't have any work for those days and all their usual games are also over. Then why not try sewing stuff, kids will get to learn something new and creative and proud enough to show it off at their school the next week. There are lots of easy as well as fun projects that anybody of any age group can try and learn and who knows Mom or Dad might have an excellent time as well.

Teaching The Basics

Prior to getting into sewing fun stuff, make certain that you teach each child about the safety and precautions using needles and pins, and how to accomplisho a basic stitch through doing some practice on a piece of material.

If you have the money, provide a sewing kit to all of the children as this might give them an awareness of responsibility and an encouragement to sew more. But after the projects, keep the kits in a safe place and out of reach of children.

Pin Cushions - An Excellent Place To Begin

Pin cushions can be a good place to start since it is easy and simple to produce. Also it can further be added to a children's sewing kit. All it that is required is a piece of fabric, a small amount of stuffing and obviously a thread and needle. Sew a shape of the material together like a pillow(square is the easiest), leaving a relatively small section open for the fill. Fill the shape, sew the hole and you are done.

Decorate Bags and Shirts

Decorating bags and shirts is another way of creating sewing stuff fun, as it can get your children's creative juices flowing as well as producing an end effect that is wearable for them. Instead of sewing the entire bag or shirt, purchase a plain style bag or t-shirt from a second hand type of store or a regular department store, and embellish with fun sewing stuff such as buttons, patches, fabric paint. Fabric paint is a great option for children that are younger, as there is no required sewing at all which means no needles, pins, or chance of accidents involving needless.

Quilts - Not As Hard As You Think

If children discover sewing stuff fun, and they understand the basic stitches easily a relatively easy project t take on is the more humble patch work of quilt. All that is required is an old blanket or quilt, thread and needle and a bag full of rags. Go through the bag of rags, separating the materials and patches you like, and then begin stitching it starting from one corner of the blanket. It will keep the child occupied and it will teach them commitments and give them some sense of happiness when they are finished.

California homes go green

Now-a-days the emphasis is to do environmentally friendly things. The best place to start on such ideas is your home. Home builders are coming up with ideas by which they can make home more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. You can see such kinds of specification come out from home builders in California, particularly with the recent emphasis on people living her to go green.

If you already own homes in California, there are many things that you can do by which you can make your home environmentally friendly. Here is a look at some useful tips of this:

• Do not leave your appliance plugged when you are not using it. Plugged appliances take up energy even when you do not use of them. Unplug to conserve energy.

• When you make use of appliances such as your washing machine or your dishwasher, ensure that they are fully loaded. Use them when you can take the maximum potential and do not run them on when you have minimal work to do with them.

• Use products that are environmentally friendly. Search for home products that specifically state this out.

• One factor that is seen to cause more use of heating and cooling system in the home is air leaks. Air leaks can be sealed off through weather-stripping and caulking in areas such as the door, windows, electrical outlets, and plumbing area and so on to stop air from seeping into the home.

• When you decide to paint your home, be sure to select no- or low-VOC paints.

• Buy energy star home appliances because such appliances include technologies that help to reduce power and water consumption by 10 to 50 percent.

• Conserve on your usage of water, by using toilets, taps and shower heads that have low-flow features.

• Buy home materials that are quality and durable because this way you don't have to go in for a replacement every time.

Children in Daycare - danish conditions

From age 0-1 the parents normally takes care of the baby at their own home. The mother gets paid from the state (28 weeks) when she is on sabbath with her baby, the father gets payment for only 2 weeks. Often the mother and her child gets together in mother´s groups of 5 where they discuss the daily problems, joyfull moments and the child development.

After the sabbath the baby is taken to daycare when the parents are at work - approximately 7-8 hours a day. In danish daycare for children aged 1-3 a single woman normally takes care of 4-5 children in her own home. During the day the children are playing inside with different toys and outside in the garden. Food and fruits are included in the daycare payment. After lunch it is nap-time for the children and the caretaker gets a break. During the seasons, different themes about weather, animals, music eg. are presented for the children. In spring-time the theme is growing of the plants. Together the group follow the processes of planting, watering and watching the plant growing. A very fascinating process for the small children.

At age 3 the child are taken to kindergarden and is now together with more than 40-60 other children every day divided into 2-3 divisions. In kindergarden the child is expected to be together with the group playing in the house, play outside or to participate in small trips outside the kindergarden. The trips could typically be visiting the zoo, picnic in the forrest or skating in a skating rink in the winthertime.

Most kindergarden also offers gymtime and musiclessons once a week. Neither food or fruits are included in the payment, and in most kindergarden children have to bring a lunchpack themselves.

In the springtime the oldest children, who are getting ready for preschool, often join together for a sleepover in the kindergarden. This is a fun evening with candy and a cartoon movie and a very good way for the children to end the last year in the kindergarden.

Scrapbooking Software

Okay so you have 2 items to consider. These items both tell the same story. They both have identical story telling items such as photos, clippings, text sections. One item is a notebook, plain and simple. A notebook that involves just telling the story and if the story isn't so good, chances are that the person reading it will miss the point or not finish. The other item is a scrapbook. It too tells a story. But with the story come items that don't affect the story but do offer some glitter and attractiveness. This is achieved with things like stickers, templates, punches, borders etc. The items complement the story grabbing the reader and making it more likely that they continue.

The popularity of scrapbooking is soaring. From early records called hyponemata, used by ancient Greeks to today's art form. Not only is scrapbooking an art form but it is now considered an industry. Go ahead look in the yellow pages in the phone book. There are always entries for scrapbooking and there are more references every year. Both online and brick and mortar locations are proof to the ascension of this activity.

On the timeline of scrapbooking, you will see several blips or examples when the penetration of the market increased markedly. The ready availability of paper and supplies let common people take part in the art. The latest event to boost scrapbooking is the proliferation of computers and the internet. In days of old, supplies consisted of papers, stencils, pens and pencils. The stamps, templates, glue and scissors are now joined by printers, scanners, photocopiers because of the technology boom.

Along with the digital scrapbook comes scrapbooking software. Online companies that specialize in scrapbooking supplies found that without scrapbooking software, the supplies were slow to sell. They found that if they gave away or charged minimally for it; lots of people would try it out. Give the people the tools and they will come and buy. Once confined to paper products, quotes and decorating material, the art of scrapbooking has a lot more options with digital format. You can combine digital with paper product at any point in the process. You can produce the whole scrapbook digitally or produce it digitally and then print out a hard copy. You can just pick up digital items for a hard copy scrapbook.

Instead of the old paper, glue, scissor method of scrapbooking now people are using scrapbooking software to produce a page virtually. No paper, no glue and no running with scissors. Instead of paper, there were displays, (save the trees), glue and scissors were taken over by copy, cut and paste. Online scrapbooks were the result of scrapbooking software. Photos, clippings and text can be entered on pages with standard pre-prepared layouts. Don't worry, you can still add touches or mix and match. You can make digital collages, picture clipboards or whatever you fancy for a medium to store your memorabilia online. The scrapbooking software will lead you through the process question by question. The process ends with a beautiful accounting of the story.

One of the benefits of scrapbooking software is that the producer can decide who sees the final project. It can be private, it can be whomever he decides should see it or just post it online, even to groups of scrapbookers checking out each other's methods. When you come to think of it the present social networking boom has its roots in scrapbooking. It is a logical progression of the technique. A page on Myspace is very similar to a page in your scrapbook, either online or offline. The thing about social networking and some scrapbooking online entities is that now you can attach sound and video: the total package.

Some people would think that the computer is taking over the art form with the resulting loss of creativity, but actually the opposite is true. The computer offers a lot more options to scrapbookers and makes it easy to be creative, just click and place. Scrapbooking software can be used for a number of purposes with social networking. One can communicate what they want to various groups. Groups like friends, dates, marriage and even employers. Using the software effectively will portray the producers as talented and someone who should be checked out. If you are designing a social networking page, you could help yourself by checking out software for scrapbooks. It is a perfect medium for connecting with other people and telling stories.

Been there, done that, scrapped a page about it.

Great Strategies for Increased Curb Appeal for Your Property

It has been said that the curb appeal of your property is the difference between a quick sale and a property that may stay on the market for months and months. That is why it is so important to have good curb appeal when selling your home.

If you have the money to invest, it would be a good idea to hire a company that offers landscaping and has a history of preparing houses for selling purposes. This type of company would be able to make excellent recommendations and be able to give you the best opportunity to sell you home fast.

If you don't have the money to invest in a landscaping company, there are a few things that you may be able to do as a home owner to beautify the front of your property in order to prepare your house for selling.

If you have the cash, it always looks nice if you have fresh sod laid when someone is walking up to your house. It gives the feeling of a brand new house, even if the house may not really be brand new. Sod can get a bit pricey depending on how large your front lawn is but it can definitely b worth it if you are looking to sell your home fast.

If you can't afford sodding your front lawn, you should consider mulching the front of your property. This should only be done if you have a relatively small front lawn. If you have a big front yard then mulching it would take away from the beauty of your property. Mulch the entire front yard and put in a few small bushes to bring out the curb appeal.

Lastly, you may want to fence in the front yard with an iron fence. This is really a regional option. In certain regions and neighborhoods you will see more fenced in yards than others.

These have just been a few curb appeal and landscaping designs options for todays homeowner. For more landscaping design ideas visit http://www.landscapingdesigns.org
