by Jayen Woods

Alarms systems are becoming more and more frequently used by the general public and business all over the world since they have been proved to be a good deterrent against thieves and also are the perfect tool to warn people of a possible fret, such as fire. Today we find alarm systems in people's residences, there businesses, public places, cars and motorcycles, you name it, if it's something that needs protecting or people protected from, you can find an alarm system to combat the problem.

From the point of view of protecting something that belongs to you, like your home and possessions, it's no wander more and more people are using alarm systems when you consider the 2005 FBI crime report. The report stated that in 2005 nationally in the US alone a burglary took place every 15 seconds!! And to make matters worse the average dollar loss per burglary in 2005 was $1,725.

But as said before people also purchase alarms for other reasons even more important than property loss. Fire alarms are an essential part of any home or business, especially if you live in a wooden home and have wallpaper and carpets instead of plaster and ceramic tiles. Equally as important for a lot of elderly people are medical alarms systems, especially when they live alone. There can be no argument alarms that protect people are the most important of all.

With so many different types of alarm systems on the market, each with its own manufacturers and with quality and functions varying from one company's model to the next, as you can imagine, the price range goes from very low to very high. For this reason, you must do some research first before committing your self to a serves or system.

Read up on the various types of alarm decides, find out which ones you need and then review different companies and models, to see how there units compare in quality, price and functionality. At this stage you should also read up on independent reviews to help you with your decision. Remember to take into account and look for any hidden, ongoing, or extra costs. Don't forget that you can also save money by doing the installation your self.

Alarm systems are a modem day necessity, every day people are being caught off guard, so many people adopt the "it will never happen to me" attitude, but sadly they are the main casualties. Does the "it will never happen to me" attitude ring a bell to you? Seriously if you're not utilizing alarm systems to protect your family and your belongings, you're making a huge mistake.

by Ray Dobson

If you're considering installing a vessel sink in your bathroom, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Materials. Vessel sinks come in a variety of materials. When choosing, consider your lifestyle. Choose a durable material such as cast iron or vitreous china for a high-traffic bathroom.

Available shapes. Vessel sinks come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Choose one that works with your space and the height of your countertops.

Counter height. To keep the sink at a comfortable height, the counter in your bathroom may need to be lower than it would with a conventional sink.

Storage space. Make sure there is enough counter or storage space near or around your sink to keep personal effects.

Faucets. The faucet you choose should have a neck long enough to clear the edge of the sink and pour the water in the center of the bowl.

Plumbing. A vessel sink often requires different plumbing than a traditional sink. If you're planning a redesign, have your sink in mind before beginning the project.

Lifestyle. If your bathroom is used often by children or for heavy-duty jobs such as pet baths, a vessel sink may not be ideal for that bathroom.

Vessel sinks can transform your bathroom into a stylish, striking retreat. With the wide variety of materials and shapes available, you can find a vessel sink to suit any sense of style.

Voyage Of Dolls From Wood To Silicone

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Victor Epand

There is an interesting history about dolls, though now they are considered as a toy and plaything, there was a time when it had also a religious significance. Miniatures were made out of wood, shaped to look like human figures with hair made from straw and strings, and beads were used to make the eyes and mostly hand stitched clothes and hand painted body. With the advent of technology and expansive creativity, man has created multiple versions of dolls. It was approximately in the 15th century that dolls were given the status of toys, and since then, there is no looking back for the old varieties of dolls.

The credit goes to Germany, for introducing a first ever commercially viable doll that was considered as the toy or plaything for children. The doll then made wasn't as sophisticated as today, most of them were made with wood and wax and the clothing of the dolls mostly represented German women. Doll history has had a long voyage from a crudely hand made wooden figures to very refined and sophisticated dolls like Barbie dolls.

To gain a perspective about the wide variety of dolls now available in the market, let's explore some of the popular forms of dolls -

The most traditional form of dolls would include handcrafted dolls that are made with wood and other material. Interesting part is they are popular among children as playthings and also among the adult doll collectors alike. A whole lot of them are also now imported and the look and characteristics of these dolls vary from country to country, they look like replicas of a particular land's culture an tradition in their appearance including the clothing, facial features etc

Of all the dolls widely sought after dolls are the toy dolls or play dolls. The sole purpose of these dolls is play. The variety of dolls manufactured under this type is uncountable. Manufacturers create theses dolls carefully with materials that are non-toxic and children friendly. All types of dolls, wooden, plastic, clothes etc would fall under this category.

There are Designer dolls like that have acquired fame and status of almost a celebrity among children, like for example - Barbie dolls. These types of dolls are mostly created in different versions to suit the different tastes and preferences among children. Like you would see a model Barbie doll, a bride Barbie doll etc, they are modeled based on either famous celebrities or the popular icons and professions. These dolls have on regular basis different versions of them introduced in the market, hence are also known as Variation dolls.

It's the height of creativity and commercialism both, that now have dolls made out of Silicone and material like Vinyl Skin etc that are real looking dolls. In fact one can safely call them as the miniature versions of human bodies. Ashton Drake dolls is one such example, these dolls are especially made for doll collectors who like to buy dolls as a hobby and use them as display items.

Victor Epand is an expert consultant about kids toys, stuffed animals, and dolls. You will find the best marketplace for kids toys, stuffed animals, and dolls at these sites for kids toys, stuffed animals, and different types of dolls.

Create The Backyard Of Your Dreams With A Backyard Makeover

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

Do you dream, of a beautiful, quiet, cozy place where you can relax at the end of the day? How about a secluded setting with a small bench, and maybe a storage box, where you can hide a few goodies (a book, some magazines, your knitting work, or needle point project) just for you?

Or maybe you'd rather enjoy a lively place where the entire family can join in the fun. You could build a tree house for the little ones, decorate your patio with some comfortable furniture, and maybe even install a nice pool, so you can cool off on the hot summer days.

If you read many magazines or watch TV you probably see great backyards all the time. It can make you envious if your own backyard is less than desirable. Thankfully, there are ways to do backyard makeovers to take your yard from dull to beautiful.

The first thing you need to do is assess your yard. If there is anything unsightly like discarded items that you don't use anymore it's time to get rid of them. Having things that aren't necessary in your yard can make it look cluttered.

Once you've gotten rid of the undesirables you can start to plan your yard makeover. If you know of a yard you'd love to take ideas from, take a look and start writing them down. It doesn't matter if this ideal yard is in your own neighborhood or in print somewhere.

Now, you certainly don't want your makeover to just be a complete copy of that backyard. You will need to find ways to put your own spin on it. For example, if you enjoy having friends over you will want to have a barbeque area.

When your list of makeover changes you want to make is complete you can start to take action on your yard. If you have the money you might want to invest in getting a professional involved. If you'd rather not pay someone else you can improve the look of your yard all on your own.

One of the first things you'll want to do is take care of the landscaping. Planting great looking trees and shrubs can instantly improve the look of your yard. If you'd like a garden, plant things that are in season and be prepared to change what you plant accordingly.

Once the landscaping is done you can start to think about accessories and decorations. These are really the things that make your backyard makeover unique. There are picnic tables, benches, yard décor, and other things you can add.

If you have children you will also want to make sure that your yard is fun as well as functional. You might invest in something as large as a swimming pool or as simple as a volleyball net. Consider the needs of your family and what they enjoy doing.

Doing backyard makeovers can be a lot of fun for you. Your yard will turn a lot of heads with its new look that is made to rival what people see on TV. Put your personality and desires into it and it will be so great that you'll want to spend all your time out there.

Repairing A Music Box

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Mr Music Box

One of the most beautiful gifts that someone can give another person, especially a wife or daughter, is a music box. Through the gift of music, they will be able to keep a person's memory alive through the music of the music box, which can play on for decades.

Music boxes, sadly, can also break down. So, to maintain the music that may mean so much to the person who received the musical gift, it may be required that you begin to learn about repairing a music box.

Most problems in music boxes are caused by a malfunction in the starter of the music box. Thankfully, this can often be repaired at home without having to get it repaired at a shop. There are three different types of starters for music boxes, and knowing how to fix each one will make you very versatile. As well, always remember to be very delicate as you could cause more damage to a music box in your attempt to repair it.
Wire Starter

This type of music box plays when the lid is opened and pressure is released on a metal stick, and stops when the lid is closed. When the pressure is released on the metal stick, a spring pushes the spring up and moves a connected wire down, which releases an air brake and causes the music box to play. These are the types of music box movements you need to be aware of to repair it.

You should try changing the angle of the spring with pliers. You may have to adjust it quite a bit, up and down, left and right, depending on if the music starts, doesn't start, or starts but won't stop.

You can also pull the metal stick, which may be caught on something or slightly bent. If bent, it should be replaced.
Button Starter

When a button is pushed on the box, a metal plate moves the starter mechanism, which releases a latch from the wheel of the cylinder in music boxes. This releases the air brake that allows the box to play.

In these, check to make sure that the button mechanism does not have a loose nut, and if it does, tighten it. This will hopefully allow it to connect with the metal plate to start the music. You can also adjust the plate and move it closer to the starter button.
Pin Starter

These are used in toy music boxes, where the pin blocks the air brake. When pulled, the music plays, when pushed, the music stops.

If the box does not play, make sure that the pin blocks the air brake and that when it is pulled, it releases the air brake. The pin should not be too long and if it is, it may need to be filed down. If it won't stop playing, then adjust the position of the movement and make sure that the pin is not too short. If it is, put some tape on the end to lengthen it.
Summary

Music boxes are wonderful gifts for someone you love, but like anything, they can break down and it is important that when you have a music box, you know how to repair it. Thankfully, many are easy to repair and all it takes is a basic knowledge of the inner-workings of music boxes and other types of musical gifts.

It is easy to do, people love them and you can really shine with a well-made music box, so why are you not making music boxes yet? You may find that when you give a musical gift like music boxes, that you have developed a love for putting music boxes together and it could turn into something you do a lot more. It could end up being one of your favorite hobbies in fact.

Everyone loves music, everyone loves the gift of music and there isn't a person on the planet who will not appreciate the gift you have given them when you take the time to put it together for them. Two centuries after they began to be mass produced, it is still a gift that warms the hearts of millions.

Where to Find Slip Covers To Change Your Furniture's Look

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Daithi Baillie

If you want to add instant décor to your home, you can do so simply by putting slip covers on your furniture. There are slip covers that are made for every type of sofa, loveseat and chair and are more available than ever. If you have wondered where to find slip covers, you should know that you can find them in the following places:

Discount Store

The slip covers that you find at your local discount store are usually packaged and will be cheaper than those you may find at other stores. They generally are made of synthetic materials and you may have a difficult time getting them to fit on your sofa and love seat. The good news about buying slip covers at your local discount store is that they're cheap. The bad news is that they are usually inferior to other slip covers you can get at department stores.

Department Store

Department store slip covers are usually ordered from the catalog as they are not sitting on the shelves. These are nice because you can get a good picture of what they look like in he catalog and measure before you buy. You will find that you can have a lot more choices when you purchase slip covers from your department store and that this merchandise is superior in quality to what you would get from you local discount store. You will, however, have to pay well for this merchandise. Department store slip covers are good, but costly.

Home Made

Custom slip covers can be made from a pattern or by someone who makes custom slip covers. They can be made out of any fabric and can fit any type of furniture. Custom slip covers that you can make yourself can end up costing you the same price in fabric and materials than it would cost for these covers in a discount store, only they will look much nicer and be of much better quality. The good news about making custom slip covers is that they will fit well with your furniture. The bad news is the cost. Unless you can make them yourself, you are sometimes better off just getting new furniture.

Online

There are several different online outlets that sell slip covers. If you are looking where to buy slip covers online, you can find dozens of directories so that you can make your purchase. You can even find brand new slip covers on auction sites. You can usually save a lot of money when you purchase products online, especially domestic products. The good news is that you can save money and get a quality product. The bad news is that you cannot take a look at it before you buy it, however, this is similar to catalog shopping.

Catalog Purchase

You are probably familiar with the catalogs that are distributed that relate to slip covers and other domestic goods. You can purchase products from these catalogs for less than you would pay for products in the department stores. The good news is that you can get decent slip covers for good prices. The bad aspect of purchasing slip covers in this manner is that you cannot see them before you buy them and you may end up with inferior products.

These are the main places where to find slip covers. Take a look around and find the place that is right for you.

Chess Clocks - How To Use Them

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by ron king

It is a well known fact that chess players who compete at tournaments must play efficiently and rapidly. At tournaments players have a short amount of time to plan their move and they are aided by the chess game clock. The chess clock was not used in the old days, yet it is hard now to find a chess competition, amateur or professional alike, that does not practice chess clock rules.

There are 2 common versions of chess clocks--the traditional (analog or digital) clock and Fischer-clock. The traditional chess clock has 2 time counters, 1 for each player. After a player makes his move, he pushes down a button which completly stops his counter and starts the opponent's. This procedure repeats until the end of the game. In analog clocks there is a flag that will wave if time is over for one player, while digital clocks will beep to signal that. The Fischer-clock, proposed and named after former World Champion Grandmaster Robert Fischer, is used in a similar way. The difference is that a constant amount of time (say 5 or 10 seconds) is added after every move. This assists players from running into time-trouble.

The negotiated time controls are in relevance with the chess game clock used. Time controls may vary from game to game. Players need to take into account the time controls declared when a tournament is to be entered.

Various time controls give chess games different names. A standard game most commonly has a time limit of 2 hours or more. A speedy game take place in the range of 20-45 minutes, and a blitz game in the range 5-15 minutes. There are even shorter time controls, such as 3 minutes per game or 1 minute per game, commonly referred to as 'lightning' or 'bullet', usually only played online. One that is not so familiar with chess will find them draining.

But what happens in case a player fails to complete his move in time? Commonly, he loses the game. There is an exception--if the player who still has time does not have enough material to win, then the game is drawn. Adding to this, a player who would generally win the game, had he sufficient time, may call the arbiter and ask for a draw. The arbiter will check the position and make his decision. There are several issues regarding time controls but they are usually tournament-specific. In the majority of tournaments, players are responsible for checking their opponent's time; in others the arbiter may point to a flag fall as well. These details are indeed of minor importance and chess clock rules are reconsidered every now and then.

What is mostly important is the way a player makes use of his time. A player ought to try to avoid getting into trouble. One must try playing slower, or he takes the risk in blundering. Use of time must be logical. If 2 hours are available for the whole game, this makes about 3 minutes per move (assuming a game is averaging about 40 moves). If one feels that the game is going to be rather long, he might play a bit faster. Early moves usually require little thought and some moves are more or less automatic. On the contrary, difficult situations will require more thinking and thus additional time. In practical chess it is always advantageous to have more time available than the opponent has. Most of all it is vital to look at the chess game clock and abide by the chess clock rules.

I can't tell you the number of times I've been online seeking craft ideas that are easy and quick. Being a parent means that I must use my time wisely, and find crafts that my daughter can participate in as well. However, I know that my situation is not unique to the world. I know there are many parents that experience the same. That's why I decided to create a blog to share my craft ideas with you and all parents in search of craft ideas.

Currently, I'm working on ideas with paper and ways of recycling paper in the form of crafts. Papier-Mache crafts are a great way to recycle paper. I found a website on creating beautiful and unique gift boxes. These gift boxes are not just for gift-giving. They can also be used for party decorations, table settings, pinatas, and many more. My daughter is in dance, and I have also found that these can also be used for props in recital. You can use them for any holiday and occasion. They are easy, creative, versatile, and fun to make. One more thing. Making these boxes are an excellent craft activity for kids of all ages. The term "Gift Boxes" doesn't quite describe the products because they are so much more! If you're interested, you can find a link to their site on my blog.

I invite you to visit my website. If you have ideas that you would like to share with me or questions about a craft I'm presently working on, please leave me a comment. They are always welcome. I like forward to hearing from you.

Is Early Retirement A Fantasy?

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Cindy Heller

When life or working conditions become difficult, many people fantasize about early retirement as a form of escape. Early retirement can be a reality if you have taken steps early enough to prepare for this. If you have the foresight and the discipline to set aside savings from your employment income and invested them wisely, perhaps you stand a good chance to do whatever you want to do whenever you want to do it. For people who enjoy their work, mandatory requirement to retire at a certain age may not be looked forward to. They dread the day when they will need to stop going to work as part of a regular routine, fraternizing with their colleagues and basically keeping themselves productively occupied. Another group of people are content with their previous life stage as employees and look forward to transitioning to their next stage of retirement. In summary, different people take to retirement in different ways.

A minority of people start saving for their retirement from their first paycheck. Many people do not start saving for retirement until it is a little too late. Those who started early with saving and investing for retirement, usually can look forward to comfortable retirement. For those who are unprepared, they may survive their retirement out of sheer luck - inheritance from parents who may have passed away or funds from an insurance payout due to the early death of one's spouse. For everyone else who is unprepared, life will be pretty hard during their retirement. They will have to severely limit their choices in terms of quality of accommodation, activities like travel and potentially even the types of food consumed.

Do Not Daydream About Your Retirement; Prepare For It

If you wish to enjoy the flexibility to do whatever you wish upon your retirement, you need to prepare for it by saving and investing wisely according to a financial plan. You can choose to wake up whenever you wish. You may decide to spend time with your friends and neighbors. You can spend time with your grandchildren and watch them grow up. You may wish to work in the garden or take long naps. You can catch up on your favorite TV programs or movies. In fact, your leisure choices are limitless. The key proviso is that you have the financial means to do so. So put in place a retirement plan as early as possible.

There are some who dread retirement, since they miss the sense of order in their day from employment. They do not have any particular hobbies or interests. They may not socialize easily. They just do not know what to do with themselves with all the time they have from retirement. Some of them may take on another job post-retirement. A job that may not demand much in terms of skills or physical strength. These people are contented to work as long as they can and do not look forward to their retirement.

Retirement Jobs Are Increasingly Becoming Available

The issue of retirement jobs may seem really odd to some, but the reality is that not everyone can afford to retire. In developed countries, the two issues of a shrinking population arising from fewer babies being born and an ageing population living beyond the previous lifespan estimates have meant that retirees who need jobs can usually find them. Since more people can expect to live longer, they need to take this extended longevity into their retirement financial planning. For some this may be a little too late, so they will grudgingly have to consider working longer. Many governments around the world have been systematically raising the mandatory retirement age over the last few decades.

Opportunities For Retirement Jobs In Consulting

Many professionals today can develop new careers in retirement by offering their services as consultants in the fields in which they have expertise and from which they retired. This allows them to stay in the workforce without the pressures of day to day job demands. Most will work on a part time basis and others will work as contractors, working only when there is work, leaving plenty of time for hobbies and other interests.

Those lucky enough to have lucrative part-time consulting retirement jobs have the luxury of working productively for short durations at a time, while having the flexibility to spend the rest of their time on other activities like hobbies and social service. Many retirees who elect to work usually do so with a strong work ethic. Businesses may benefit substantially from offering these charged-up, motivated and active retirees.

There is a great span of retirement jobs available for the retiree who is seeking suitable work. Some may be simple and undemanding work at retail stores like fast food joints and cafes right up to high-end consultancy positions. If retirement jobs give retirees some sense of purpose along with other tangible benefits, then society at large benefits too. National welfare systems do not end up being over-burdened.

Babies Make Us Smile

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Amy R.

There are so many things in life that make us smile, but one thing that will almost always make us smile is the sight of a baby. Most residents light up when a baby is around! It makes their day to see little ones, and is a reminder of when they were parents or just when they were younger.

It is often a rare occurance that a child or baby would come into the facility. This is where you come in. :) There are two things you can do to help residents who love babies.

For higher to mid-fuctioning residents:
See if there is a local Mom's Group in your area. There are so many groups around that most areas have at least one group in their area. You can check out Mothers and More or MOMS Club to start. Then see if they would like to have one of their playdates at your facility. All you need is a group area where they can all be on the floor and play. When you are scheduling this event, see what the group requires. Most of the time a few goldfish, and juice boxes, and you are set to have a great playdate. See if they have toys they bring, or if this would be something you would need to provide. Most of the time, they have toys they can bring, so this won't be a big issue. Once you have the time worked out, just get the room ready for kids to play on the floor. While the children are playing, the residents can come by and visit. Moms Groups are always looking for a new place for a playdate, and most groups have a philanthropic idea around them, so this is a perfect fit. Some playgroups might be reluctant to come, but if you assure them of a clean and welcoming environment, it will assure them that you are also watching out for their children.

For Dementia Patients:
There have been a few studies done with play dolls and advanced dementia patients. In one study they found that having an area where there is a baby nursery can be comforting to patients with this advanced stage of the disease. This area should have an area where they can take their "babies." This area can have a changing table, diapers, wipes, and a crib. Any additional things you can provide to make it look like a baby's room works well. Toys, Clothing. etc. Each person participating in this activity will get their own baby, so they can carry it around with them wherever they go.

You will find that these babies will make not only the residents smile, but will also put a smile on your face too!

The History of Pinball Machines

Subscribe in a Reader

by Joshua McNiel

Pinball machines have a complex history. The roots of the modern-day pinball machines that you use in your local café come from games such as croquet and billiards, which constitute of guiding a ball to a precise location by hitting them with an instrument. However, the real spiritual ancestor to modern pinball machines was the game of Bagatelle. Developed in France during the 18th century, the game consisted of getting balls into the holes on one side of the board using a stick or a cue. The surface of the board was inclined, and obstacles were set in front of the holes to provide a more challenging experience. Many of these features have been adapted and can be seen in modern pinball machines.

In the 19th century an inventor named Redgrave took the design of the Bagatelle game and improved on it. One of his additions, still visible today, is the plunger: a device which launched the ball up an inclined field. However, once the ball was released from the plunger the user could not interact with the ball further, as flippers for the pinball machine had not yet been developed. This lead to individuals gambling on the outcome the ball would face. As a result, pinball machines were banned in many parts of the United States, including in New York City from 1940 up to 1976. The ban on the machines was ended in a famous case where Roger Sharpe claimed that the balls could be controlled by skill (with the addition of flippers) and were not solely based on luck. On a pinball machine present in the courtroom, he announced where he was going to hit the ball and proceeded to do so successfully.

The 1930s saw much innovation in terms of the design of pinball machines. The machines now included limited electronic functions such as basic sounds and the ability to propel the ball without the user's force. Several new features were introduced at this time as well, such as the tilt mechanism and free games. These new features were groundbreaking for those days and sparked a renewed interest in pinball machines. The "Humpty-Dumpty" pinball machine was the first pinball machine to include flippers. This meant that users could now play a ball for a greater period of time and introduced the whole aspect of skill and controlling the ball while playing pinball.

However, with video games being developed in the 1980s, they were quickly set aside in arcades to make way for the innovation provided by the video game sector. Many companies which had made their fortunes on manufacturing pinball machines were forced to close. It was only in the 1990s that pinball machines made a comeback, bringing exciting innovations to the machines such as a complex displays and sound systems.

Yet the turn of the millennium was a turn for the worse for pinball machines, and the sales reported by many manufactures were falling dramatically. Most manufactures were once again forced to close. Today, Stem Pinball is the only remaining manufacturer in the industry. We will have to wait and see whether they are able to bring innovation to an industry which has had so many ups and downs.

Collecting Las Vegas Casino Chips

Subscribe in a Reader

by David Bryan

New collecting hobbies pop up all of the time around the globe. One collecting hobby that is seeing an increase in participation is Las Vegas casino chip collecting. Most people get started in collecting casino chips by accident. When people visit Las Vegas they sometimes forget to cash in the left over casino chips before leaving town. Over time most build up a little collection and think nothing about it. Casino chip collecting is an addictive hobby as Vegas casinos are forever releasing commemorative and limited edition chips all the time. At the same time, old Vegas casinos are being knocked down and replaced with newer and glitzier gambling casinos. This makes casino chips from the older casinos rare to find. Over the years these will become vintage casino chips and will be harder and harder to find. Poker chips and regular casino chips mostly come in regular denominations from one dollar on up. Most of the extensive chip collections focus on face values of one hundred dollars on down. Many collectors have cases designed to display some of there rarest and oldest chips in their collection.

When you begin collecting, I suggest visiting as many casinos as you can and at the very least pick up a dollar chip from each casino you stop at. A good twenty dollars is nothing to budget aside to pick up these gems. Make sure to stop by the Hard Rock Casino as they are constantly releasing chips of upcoming events and musical acts. There are also many stores and shops online that sell casino chips. Ebay is also becoming a fantastic trading ground for collectors around the world. there are chip collecting organizations forming all the time and can be found very easily on the internet.

So next time you are booking a trip to Las Vegas, make sure to set aside some luggage space and cold hard cash to dedicate to your casino chip collection. It is a great gamble and their is a good bet they will increase in value down the road.

David Bryan is an avid Las Vegas chip collector. For more Las Vegas casino chip buying options and Vegas casino chips for sale visit Las Vegas Casino Chips.

How To Avoid Common Interior Design Mistakes

Subscribe in a Reader

by David McEvoy

For some people, interior design comes naturally, but for others, well they have to work much harder to find inspiration for new ideas that will allow their creative streak to shine through so that they too can produce spaces that are beautiful, functional and in perfect harmony with the rest of the surroundings.

If it sounds like too much hard work for you then perhaps you should call in a professional interior design so that you can just sit back and watch the transformation take place. However, if you want to have a go yourself, then it would be wise and certainly less expensive if you sought to avoid making some common mistakes and aimed for getting it right first time.

Remember to plan

The most important task in any interior design project is proper planning, get this right and the rest will follow relatively smoothly. For example, you need to ask yourself what the space is going to be used for, what safety and practical issues need to be considered, how much money you are prepared to spend and of course you need to have an idea of what sort of look or style you are aiming for as this will influence the furniture, fixtures and fittings, colour schemes, materials and finishing touches.

Gather pictures of rooms or spaces that appeal to you, visit showrooms and browse the internet for inspiration so that you get a clear of idea of what you like and what you don't then sit down and spend some time planning the entire project.

Always measure

Avoid the temptation to rely on your eyes alone to decide if a particular item will fit into a space, you really don't want to find yourself in the situation of having bought a large item of furniture only to discover that when it arrives it doesn't fit. Measure the available space first and you'll save yourself a lot of stress and expense later.

Test the paint first

If you get the colour scheme wrong then it can be a costly operation to rectify it or you will just have to learn to live with it. Remember always to test any paint on a small patch of wall first as the colour will invariably look quite different than the colour on the tin once it is has dried and will also be affected by the light in the room. Testing first ensures that you get exactly the shade you want and you can make sure it matches harmoniously with other items in the room.

Avoid clutter

Don't be tempted to cram too many different pieces, ornaments, pictures and artefacts of all different shapes and sizes into a space; it will just look untidy and cluttered. If you are not sure you could always go for a theme such as nature or water, or choose items in different shades of the same colour, or perhaps in the same material such as wood, metal or glass. There are no hard and fast rules; ultimately, you have to be pleased with the finished result.

Don't mix too many styles together

Too often, people are not sure of what style they want to opt for and may find that they are tempted to throw in a bit of everything that they like so that they end up with a room that just looks fussy and unappealing. Professionals will often mix styles together but they have the advantage of already having a good idea of knowing what works and what doesn't. Try to stick to one or two styles at the most and choose ones that complement each other. Some popular styles include:

* Country Cottage
* Traditional
* Minimalist
* Retro
* Themed styles (Japanese, Scandinavian, Nature, Aztec, American Indian etc.)

Completing the look

The finishing touches in any room can make or break a room so choose them carefully. A well placed vase of flowers in colours that complement the room, a strategically placed mirror on the wall, a fine painting or piece of art are just a few ideas which might help enhance the beauty of a space.

Avoid keeping any items just for the sake of it as this can spoil an otherwise perfect room, for example, plants that are not in the best of health, shabby curtains and lampshades, items of furniture that are surplus to requirements, rugs that have seen better days or collections of ornaments that just don't match your new look. Keep it simple with the philosophy of less is more and you won't go far wrong.

Learners Crochet Video - How To Get Free Beginner Crochet Video

by David Faulkner

If you have never heard of the term paper embroidery, you might think that it’s a strange idea to be stitching on paper instead of on fabric. But paper embroidery has actually been practiced by people for many decades now. Although it has been started quite a long time ago, its popularity only started to peak in recent years when more individuals manifested interest in this unique art form.

The main purpose of paper embroidery these days is to add a personal touch to otherwise nondescript items, such as notebook covers perhaps or a page in your scrapbook. Many people also like to create paper embroidery greeting cards.

We all like receiving gifts and remembrances that the giver had put a lot of effort into making, and paper embroidery cards are definitely something that is well thought of. These gifts will surely be treasured by the recipient for many years.

Paper embroidery is very similar to needlework on fabric in the sense that you use a needle and thread to create attractive patterns and designs. The concept is the same and the only difference is in the materials to be used.

When preparing your materials for your paper embroidery, the first thing you have to think about is the type of paper that you will be using. It has to be something that is tough enough to contain the threads of the embroidery design, but also fibrous enough for you to be able to push a needle through it.

Speaking of needles, the type of needle you need for your paper embroidery project is something that is very thin and sharp so it won't create unnecessary pores in your paper.

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

You also have to make sure though that the eye of the needle will be able to accommodate the thickness of the thread you are planning to use. Many paper embroidery experts recommend that you use the 75/11 needles for your work.

The next thing you have to consider is the kinds of threads to use. In paper embroidery, you can actually use any kind of embroidery thread you like. You just have to make sure that the thread will fit the needle, and that it won’t be too thick for the paper you have decided on using.

One of the fabulous things about paper embroidery is that you can combine the needlework with other forms of art that you can do on paper. For example, you can use clear glue to sprinkle glitter onto your paper, or even add sequins or beads to your work.

There is actually no limit to what you can add. You just have to make sure that your paper embroidery project is well put together even with all the elements you put in.

Once you get the hang of paper embroidery, you will definitely be able to produce many unique products and have a lot of fun while doing it.

What Is Required For Indoor Bonsai Care?

by

The term Bonsai is used for the description of a number of trees that have the capability of being miniaturized. To create little trees, trees, repeated pruning of the crown and roots is necessary. It is also essential to confine the plant to a reasonably small pot or container. Bonsai trees were first created in ancient China; and, the practice spread to Japan and, eventually, to other locations in the world. This is a method of turning out plants that are small but would normally grow quite large. The final product is a tree that looks old but really isn’t, at first.

Indoor Bonsai Care is Often Necessary

For successful indoor bonsai care, they will need to live in an environment similar to their origins. This means that plants from the tropics or subtropics will probably not survive outside during the harsh and freezing winter months. It is imperative to be fully aware of the plants’ needs prior to bringing them inside your home or office. Following are some critical tips for optimal indoor Bonsai care.

Don't forget to download Indocquent's free social bookmark utility for your website or blog at http://www.indocquent.com/social_bookmark/social_bookmark_landingpage.html.

It is necessary to mimic the sunlight these trees are used to when they are outside. This can be accomplished by providing natural and artificial lighting. Although all plants need some amount of sunlight, there are some trees that do not require very much light. Consequently, you need to know just what variety of plant you have to work with. To get some light, bonsai can be placed near a window; but, this is not going to be the complete answer, because this may not yield enough light for some varieties of bonsai. As an alternative or supplement, lighting that comes from fluorescent lamps can provide adequate indoor bonsai care for at least twelve hours a day.

Species which are miniaturized into bonsai and come from colder regions will require more indoor bonsai care than tropical species that do not need as much care. Because tropical forms of vegetation are used to humid temperatures, they can usually live with our house temperatures, even in the colder months. However, to thrive successfully, tropical bonsai trees will need a humid environment.

For the best indoor Bonsai care, you should not place a tropical bonsai tree near a window during a cold night, even if the window remains shut. Moreover, in the winter months, you should keep the bonsai away from radiators or heating vents and continually mist the leaves to produce the effect of humidity. It is also a good idea to place the bonsai container on a water-filled tray with small pebbles. The pebbles will protect the bonsai from getting wet and the water will evaporate through the branches, yielding much-needed humidity.

For even the most caring bonsai hobbyist indoor bonsai care can become tiresome, since the bonsai does best if it is taken outside when the weather is good. Due to business events and work schedules, some bonsai hobbyists may simply forget to tend their trees properly. These plants are not normally supposed to live indoors; but, if doing so is a must for their survival, then good indoor bonsai care can be accomplished by following the aforementioned tips.

Herb Daniels is an amateur gardener living on the East Coast of Florida puttering around in his garden as time and weather allows. Herb has a web site where he posts a few articles and other information about Indoor Bonsai Care

How to Survive Grocery Shopping with Kids in Tow

by Elena Neitlich

“Before kids I used to happily peruse the supermarket aisles, slowly selecting interesting new items, scrutinizing labels and creating a few evening meals in my head as I shopped. Now I have two small kids and my creative shopping days are over. I run through the store and I am lucky if I get half of the essentials that I need to get through the week,” writes a frustrated mom when asked about her biggest daily stressors.

With small children in tow, visits to the supermarket can be unproductive and filled with anxiety. An extra twenty minutes of indecision, waiting at the deli, or traveling unneeded aisles, is just enough time for kids to lose their marbles and cause the parent to flee the store, shopping incomplete.

Supermarket shopping must get done, and bringing the children, for the majority of parents, is the only viable option.

Survival Tips

Create a weekly menu.

On Sunday, find 7 simple dinner recipes made with basic, healthy ingredients. Include an easy lunch menu for 7 days and then decide breakfast choices for the week. The Food Network website yields hundreds of tasty, easy to prepare meal ideas like beef stroganoff and tacos. Writing a weekly menu will relieve the stress that families feel each evening when deciding what’s for dinner, leaving more time and energy for family time.

Make a list.

Using the weekly menu, make a shopping list on the front of a plain envelope (reason for envelope in next tip) of all of the items needed to prepare the week’s breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. The food list complete, go through the house and add to the list, beverages, paper, cleaning, and bath and beauty products running low. A pad of paper and pen in an accessible area lets family members jot down items they need.

Study the floor plan of the grocery store.

It is really helpful to know the layout of the grocery store when creating a grocery list because the list can be made to correlate to the store. For example, if the deli is the first place passed and the dairy is next and then meat, deli items should be grouped at the top of the list followed by all of the dairy items and then meat. Although seemingly obsessive-compulsive, correlating the list to the store layout eliminates doubling back and can save enormous amounts of time.

Clip coupons.

After the list is created, find coupons that match items on the list. Only use coupons for those items regularly used, or those items the family might enjoy trying. Put the coupons needed for the current shopping list into the envelope with the grocery list printed on it. Place a check next to those items on the list that have a coupon. Don’t add extra items to the list just to use a coupon. Compare prices, sometimes another brand might be cheaper than the brand with the coupon.

Do be creative with the weekly menu to incorporate coupons, for example make chicken instead of pork chops if there is a chicken coupon. Don’t compromise on health to use a coupon; don’t buy a 10% juice beverage with a coupon instead of 100% juice without a coupon or settle for high sugar cereal with a coupon in place of a healthy cereal without.

Choose off-peak hours.

It is much more efficient and pleasant to schedule supermarket visits when the store is empty. Mornings, after people are at work and older children are in school, are quiet in grocery stores and lines are short or non-existent. Later evening for working parents, or early mornings on weekends are typically light. Take note when visiting or just call and ask a store manager, “When is the store is at its most quiet?” Schedule visits during off-peak hours. Workers are much more pleasant and helpful on a whole when not facing hoards of impatient customers.

Hug the perimeter.

The healthiest items in the supermarket are found along the perimeter of the store. Fresh produce, meats and seafood, and the dairy cases all sit along the outer edges. The majority of cart time should be spent along the perimeter. Fresh foods are, more often than not, healthier than the ready-to-eat foods found in the middle aisles. The amount of sodium and fat added to fresh foods while cooking is up to the cook, not the manufacturer.
Ask for help and bring a pen.

Supermarket workers are knowledgeable and generally willing to help. Instead of wandering the aisles in search of a product, ask. Staff will often go out of their way to locate a hard to find item. The butcher can slice cuts of meat and chicken exactly as recipes call for, saving prep time at home. It is perfectly reasonable and a good use of time to alert the butcher or deli clerk, and shop while they are preparing the order.

Bring a pen and cross items off of the list as you put them in the cart, or you will waste time checking and rechecking your list.

Finally, accept the bagger’s offer to bring bundles to the car. Let the bagger push the cart, load the groceries into the car, and return the cart. The parent can keep the kids safe in the parking lot and buckle car seats and seat belts. Safer and a time saver – and baggers often like to get out of the store.

In Ground Bullet Lights

Lighting the exterior of your home or business might come as an afterthought, but the landscape outside of your home or business should not be neglected. There are many different ways in which people choose to accent parts of their land and building. If you are looking to spotlight a certain feature, you will want a light that can be directed accordingly and focuses just on what you want to showcase. In ground bullet lights or well lights are ideal for uplighting an area, particularly to bring out a bit of drama from an otherwise drab shrub or tree. Depending upon the type of inground bullet lights you choose, installation of them can be as simple as a weekend project for an amateur. You also could opt for a more elaborate, professionally installed display for a commercial property. The choices are up to you and what will work best with your landscape.

There are many things to consider if you are looking to install in ground bullet lights outside your home or business. For home applications, you will likely want to use low voltage lights. There are many benefits to low voltage in-ground bullet lights for homeowners. First of all, low voltage lights require less electricity. This means that they are cheaper to operate than high voltage in ground fixtures. Another boon to low voltage lights is that the electricity is at a low enough power to allow a weekend handyman to install the lights him (or her) self. If you have a basic knowledge of electrical installation, then you should be able to put these lights in your yard. Be aware, though, that if you intend to install low voltage grade level lights in your yard, you will need to get a transformer to convert the 120 volts from a household outlet to the typical 12 to 24 volts required by low voltage lights. These low voltage options are typically the choice for homeowners due to their ease of installation and low operation costs, but if you own a commercial business, you might find that you need something with a bit more power.

If your business has a large area to be lit, you will probably want to have a set of professionally installed high voltage brass inground bullet lights. The difference between low and high voltage lights is the amount of electricity that they require and the brightness they put out. For the ultimate in brightness and a professional look, you will need to consult with a professional electrician to determine the number and type of in ground directional bullet lights you need. These lights will help you to direct light beams from the ground level in any direction you want. Many business owners choose to have these illuminate signs, facades or architectural features of their exterior. You will be able to get more light from high voltage lights, but due to their nature, they are too dangerous to install by an amateur. You will need to hire a professional contractor.

If you still have questions about the type or number of inground bullet lights you might need, the truly professional experts will guide you toward the best choices for your project, not just what they can sell to you. With their expertise and advice, selecting and installing your in-ground bullet lights can be easy.

Landscaping Without Breaking the Bank

As you make your way around the block for your morning jog, a beautiful landscape often stops you on your tracks, right? With the colorful foliage and the brilliantly arranged cobble stone walks---wow! One may assume that this landscaping design costs a lot. Looking at your own yard (and pocket), you were discouraged.

Everybody wants to have a prized lawn, however, only a few can really afford a decent contractor that will dress up their yards. The question now is, ‘How can one transform a bare land into a breathtaking wonder on a budget?’ The materials alone may prove expensive, what more the labor and the expertise?

Simple. Here are a few tips. Not only will you save money, but time as well.

Planning. Identify what you want to do with and what you need for your outdoor space. Landscaping construction need not be a detailed blueprint, but one must have at least an idea, a rough draft of what will be installed, planted and severed. This is a must whether you’re going to hire a contractor or DIY. Within the planning stage, there exists a handful of topics. One would be the budget. This is one of the factors that will set the perimeters of your project. Actually, the whole budget would likely depend on the size of your budget. Make sure you note the figure that you’re willing to part with. Hundreds? Thousands? May be a couple hundred less or a couple thousand more. Be faithful and stick to your budget. Another would be choosing the right flora for the right area. I advise that you scour your local library for gardening topics and ‘how to’ books regarding landscaping plants or landscaping trees. I’m certain you’ll find the ideal landscaping, be it an herb garden, a rock garden, a vegetable or flower garden. Take note that each possesses different growing patterns. Others grow well in a specific season, while some strive on shade instead of full sunlight. Accessories. Would you need to rejuvenate your patio? Then visit your nearest hardware store and purchase the high-quality latex sealer. Believe me, though this is a little expensive, it will serve its purpose in the long run. Not only will your patio look good, it will be protected as well. A slide and swing for the kids? A few seats beneath the shade? Some water works, perhaps? How about a couple of lightings? But before going overboard, remember, stick within you budget. Start with those under the priority column. If you still have some spare cash, then go crazy by adding a little something-something.

Use what you have. This I got from my granma. She uses blocks and tiles (excess from when she had new flooring installed) to elevate some of the plants to create a dimensional feel. The usual plastic containers transformed into flower pots are ever present in her backyard. Crocked gardening materials, keep it. It’s not broken, right? The rule with my granma is that when something is shattered beyond repair, then that’s the only time it'll take a trip to the trash bin. Speaking of trash bin, I think she turned a pail (with broken handle) into a makeshift trash bin. Trust me, these items don’t seem damaged when arranged properly and showcasing Nature’s beauty.

Start small. If you’re really tightening your belt, start purchasing small plants. This doesn’t cost as much as buying huge ones. Plus you can buy a lot of small ones, preferably perennials like asters, iris, phlox and day lilies; or annual plants like sunflowers, blue poppy, geranium, African and Signet marigold. I prefer the latter for you can change the look of your garden every year. These small plants may be used to fill the gaps in between shrubs and trees that have yet to reach maturity. Remember, your yard will fill in all through the next season, don't overdo it during the first season.

Swap (or just ask). What’s a little swap between friends? You can even ask them for cuttings and seedlings. Again, my grandma is a pro with swapping, well, actually in giving. Whether small or otherwise, she gives them to friends and neighbors alike. A couple of times I saw her giving birds of paradise as a gift, sometimes it’s orchids. Probably, she gives whatever plant is in season.

The effort you put into the initial planning will pay you back big time in the end. And knowing that you did everything with a limited budget makes it more rewarding. Imagine being able to stretch the value of a dollar. Give yourself a pat on the back, good job!
