If you're considering installing a vessel sink in your bathroom, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Materials. Vessel sinks come in a variety of materials. When choosing, consider your lifestyle. Choose a durable material such as cast iron or vitreous china for a high-traffic bathroom.

Available shapes. Vessel sinks come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Choose one that works with your space and the height of your countertops.

Counter height. To keep the sink at a comfortable height, the counter in your bathroom may need to be lower than it would with a conventional sink.

Storage space. Make sure there is enough counter or storage space near or around your sink to keep personal effects.

Faucets. The faucet you choose should have a neck long enough to clear the edge of the sink and pour the water in the center of the bowl.

Plumbing. A vessel sink often requires different plumbing than a traditional sink. If you're planning a redesign, have your sink in mind before beginning the project.

Lifestyle. If your bathroom is used often by children or for heavy-duty jobs such as pet baths, a vessel sink may not be ideal for that bathroom.

Vessel sinks can transform your bathroom into a stylish, striking retreat. With the wide variety of materials and shapes available, you can find a vessel sink to suit any sense of style.
